The week of 14 -20 October is an opportunity for BAPEN to replicate the National Screening Weeks we have carried out in previous years. Our aim is to get as many organisations as possible from across the UK (both in health and social care) to participate in malnutrition screening during UK MAW 2019. By screening a larger number of people, it can help us to build a better picture of the scale of the malnutrition problem in the UK. We also want to understand the treatment that patients are receiving, which will give us an estimation of the use of the various nutritional support options, such as oral nutritional supplements, tube feeding, parenteral nutrition and dietary options too.
There will be a dedicated, simple web-based system on the BAPEN website for everyone to input their data during this week. More information will be shared via social media @BAPENUK and BAPEN Facebook page and at: www.bapen.org.uk/malnutrition-undernutrition/combating-malnutrition/malnutrition-awareness-week
