IDDSI UK Usage Survey

The UK International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Committee Reference Group (UKIRG) is currently conducting a survey of IDDSI awareness and practices in the UK.

If you have an interest in dysphagia, and its associated problems, the UKIRG would welcome you making your views heard. The survey period ends on 30 September 2021. Please access the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/J7HNK86.

The IDDSI Framework (https://iddsi.org/Framework) was first published in November 2015, after initial work started in 2013. It was updated in 2019. The framework has been formally adopted in some countries as best practice – including Israel and New Zealand – and in 2020 the UKIRG was created in the UK as a volunteer-led body to guide, advocate, and facilitate the ongoing implementation and use of IDDSI. Ten similar groups currently exist in other countries.

In the UK, the invitation to join the group was initially through ‘IDDSI e-bites’ – the IDDSI’s monthly newsletter – but also using professional networks and other informal communication channels. An initial briefing meeting was hosted online by Peter Lam, IDDSI co-chair, on 21 January 2021, with 64 participants.

You can read more about the work of the IDDSI in the October 2021 issue of CN magazine.
